RAYMOND BLANC PRAISES COLIN BREED MP'S STAND ON JUNK FOOD ADS

12.01.00pm GMT Tue 12th Dec 2006

Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall, was praised this week by Raymond Blanc, internationally renowned Chef Patron of Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, for taking a stand to protect children from junk food TV advertising.

Mr Breed has joined a coalition of over 300 health, consumer and children's organisations in calling for an end to junk food advertising on television before the 9pm watershed.

Raymond Blanc said,

"Childhood obesity is at record levels; across Britain one in three children are obese or overweight. It's time for politicians to take some tough action to improve children's health, and so I'm delighted that Colin has joined our call to protect kids from junk food adverts before 9pm."

Mr Breed added,

"I think the time has come to take action on junk food adverts. Parents want to protect their children from the barrage of adverts for foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Ending junk food adverts before 9pm will improve the nation's health to such an extent that it's predicted it could save us hundreds of millions of pounds a year. It could also re-introduce children to good food and shared family meals."
